Equipped to handle almost every type of critical and emergency situation, SGMC’s ED locations treat more than 100,000 patients a year.

SGMC’s main campus ED has an on-site helipad for rapid transfer of patients with life-threatening conditions. The ED is a Certified Primary Stroke Center. SGMC also has the only open heart surgery program in the region. The Stroke Team and Cardiovascular Team treat many life-threatening emergencies right here in Valdosta.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms you should go to the nearest emergency room or call 911:

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Chest or upper abdominal pain or pressure
  • Fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness
  • Changes in vision
  • Confusion or changes in mental status
  • Any sudden or severe pain
  • Unexplained stupor, drowsiness or disorientation
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Coughing or vomiting blood
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Shortness of breath
  • Suicidal feelings
  • Unusual abdominal pain
