Dr. Johnson goes above and beyond for his patients and staff. He is very attentive to detail and listens to his patient's needs, he often works late hours and often calls his patient after hours because he truly cares.

Dr. Vera has always been a very caring physician and always puts her patient's well-being above everything. She always makes her patients feel like family. She is an amazing physician.

Dr. Mandy Lucas is the most compassionate doctor I have ever had. She sits and listens and provides options. I couldn't ask for a better doctor!

Belinda L.

Dr. Harris and staff are really nice and helpful. They are genuinely concerned about your health. After every visit, they call me with test results and the doctor's recommendations. I like that a lot. It takes away all of the guessing.

Velma J.

Dr. Parker is wonderful. She really listens to your concerns and is willing to work with you on your health care plans and makes sure you understand everything. Her staff is top-notch as well.

Lynn H.

I just changed to SGMC Valdosta Medical Clinic and had my first appointment. They got me in remarkably fast for my annual wellness visit. I was still checking in at the front desk when the nurse was calling me back. I waited less than 5 min for Dr. Courson to come into the room. He was very thorough and helpful, making necessary referrals and follow-up appointments. Everybody in the clinic, from the front desk to checking out, smiled and greeted me. A great all-around experience!

Jill S.

Dr. Rickman and his staff do a wonderful job of being thorough, friendly, and caring. The wait time is never long, smiles are everything, and the atmosphere is always so warm!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a primary care provider?

Primary care providers coordinate all aspects of your health care, including both physical and mental health.  They listen to your questions, assess symptoms, recommend treatment approaches, prescribe medication, and refer you to the proper specialist when needed.

Why do I need a primary care provider?

It's important to have a primary care physician because they get to know you, your medical history and your family health history. Building a long-term relationship with your provider can lead to major health benefits over your lifetime, such as lower overall health costs, a decrease in hospital and ER visits, and better management of chronic diseases. PCPs are also able to refer you to the correct specialists in the region's most comprehensive specialty network.

What's the difference between a family medicine and internal medicine physician?

An internal medicine physician cares for adults. A family medicine physician is both a pediatrician and an internal medicine doctor combined into one specialty. They care for both children and adults.

How do I choose a primary care provider?

There are a number of factors to consider when selecting your primary care physician. Get opinions from people you trust such as family, friends, and co-workers. Check your health insurance plan to find out what physicians are in-network. Consider your own preferences for office location, office hours, and ease of scheduling.

Most importantly, your primary care physician should be someone you trust – someone who listens to you and makes you feel comfortable when talking about your health issues."

How often should I have an appointment with my provider?

You should see your provider once a year to maintain your health. At this appointment, your provider will conduct an annual wellness exam and ask you questions about your health. Additional appointments may be needed if any conditions, symptoms, or needs arise.

Where can I go if my primary care provider is not available (i.e. after hours or on the weekend)?

SGMC Urgent Care provides quality, immediate walk-in care for patients of all ages every day from 9am-8pm. Urgent Care can treat any non-emergent, minor injuries and illnesses, including flu, urinary tract infections, strains and sprains, rashes, minor fractures, and sore throats.

What if I don't have health insurance?

For the uninsured, Partnership Health Center provides low-cost primary and walk-in urgent care. https://www.phcvaldosta.org/
