With nearly 2,000 babies delivered each year, SGMC Health continues to see growing demand for high-quality, accessible care for mothers and newborns. As our region grows, so does the need for advanced services, expanded capacity, and modern care environments.
New Stalvey Women & Infants Center
At the heart of this expansion is the creation of the Stalvey Women & Infants Center—a dedicated space designed to support families during the earliest and most critical stages of life.
This new center will provide a state-of-the-art environment for prenatal care, labor and delivery, neonatal care, and postpartum recovery. Scheduled to open in January 2027, the center will ensure families across South Georgia have access to advanced, specialized care for generations to come.
Designed with Families in Mind
Every detail of the new Women & Infants Center is focused on creating a seamless, supportive experience for patients and families.
The center will feature expanded, state-of-the-art spaces for labor, delivery, and recovery, along with enhanced antepartum and postpartum care, cesarean section suites, a dedicated OB Emergency Department, and a modern newborn nursery—all thoughtfully designed to improve comfort, safety, and the overall experience for mothers, babies, and families.
Designed to support up to 3,000 births annually, this facility will expand capacity while enhancing comfort, privacy, and care delivery.

Coming Soon: Maternal Fetal Medicine:Maternal Fetal Medicine services will provide specialized care for high-risk pregnancies, offering advanced monitoring, diagnostics, and coordinated treatment plans for both mother and baby.

Advanced Care Close to Home: Level III NICU
With the new space, SGMC Health will be expanding its neonatal capabilities with the transition to a Level III NICU in the Fall of 2027, allowing more premature and critically ill newborns to receive specialized care close to home.
What This Means for Families
A Level III NICU is designed to care for:
Babies born prematurely
Infants weighing less than 3 pounds
Newborns who are critically ill or need intensive monitoring
Advanced Capabilities Include:
A full range of respiratory support, including advanced ventilation
Advanced imaging and diagnostics
Resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill newborns
Continuous, specialized monitoring
Care is supported by board-certified neonatologists available 24/7, ensuring expert oversight at all times.
This designation follows national standards set by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).

With these expanded capabilities, fewer babies will need to be transferred to other facilities.
